Me about to leave my work office. Not the best pose I know.
If you’re chasing work-life balance, you need to stop because it’s a myth.
No, this hasn’t come out of nowhere.
When I started working in 2022, I chased this 'balance', especially as WFH and flexible working have become the new normal.
Thankfully, I (just) missed an era where remote work wasn't an option.
So in my first job, I worked hard to impress my peers and prove I was an asset to the company.
Did this result in late nights and overworking -> Not quite.
But I stretched myself and stayed 'always on' through email and Teams.
Then I got laid off in Summer 2022.
All that effort, hard work and networking.
Gone.
After that, I knew I had to prioritise what was most important to me.
Fast-forward to now where I’m working on content creation, my day job and other ventures and I still haven’t learned my lesson fully.(😁).
There are times when you will need to work HARD for a few seasons in your life.
However, those who ake good lives for themselves prioritise what they find important.
Sometimes that means spending several hours working hard on ONE thing, with no reward at the end.
And right now I do these things:
- Work 9-5
- Go to the gym
- Create content on 4 platforms
- Play sports
- Study self-improvement books
- Work towards my personal and career goals
Yes, I could take it easy but I want to explore these opportunities and push myself.
If you're working hard on what REALLY matters to you, forget about finding a 'work life balance'.
