Here's how you WASTE your holidays.

Don't do these things.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.

The Breakdown

Hey fam!

DEEP DIVE

Here's how you WASTE your holidays.

1. Sit on your phone for 4+ hours
2. Binge-watch/play games for several hours without a break (I've done this a few times)
3. Stress about a recent event at work (and keep replaying it in your mind)

Real rest for me is not any of the above. Yet, this is how I spent most of my Bank Holiday (national day off in the UK) last weekend.

But I've been so caught up in creating content, work and learning new skills that I've forgotten how to actually rest.

When you get caught up in doing what you're interested in, it's easy to forget about self-care and taking a break.

Yet to have a healthy, long and fulfilling career, you owe it to your future self to learn how to rest properly.

This is one thing I'll work on for the rest of the year.

Went out for a nice walk on Monday.

As you’ll see below, I made a video about this topic. Sometimes, I feel like I’m going against myself by not following my own advice.

Yet, when you’re caught up in the flow of important and interesting work, you don’t feel the need to slow down.

But I (and you) need to be careful. When small stresses (e.g., a friend throwing a sneaky comment at you) in your life build up and you keep taking it without slowing down and resting, it can lead to bigger problems.

At university, I kept stressing myself over my assignments, specifically on:

  1. The need to create a ‘perfect’ essay

  2. The deadlines I had to juggle

These led to many migraines, anxious late nights and minimal sleep.

Add to that a stressful weekend job and you get a bad case of burnout and ongoing stress.

If I was to relive my university experience again, I’d do it completely different (a topic for another time).

Main lesson here, if you don’t find time to rest (doesn’t have to be a whole day to start with), your body will let you know the hard way.

TIPS & TRICKS
TAKE ACTION TODAY

  1. Schedule Breaks: Set specific times during your day to step away from work and relax, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

  2. Mindful Activities: Engage in activities that help you relax, like walking or reading.

  3. Set Boundaries: Create clear boundaries between work and personal time.

  4. Reflect and Adjust: Regularly assess how you’re feeling and adjust where needed.
